PostSubject: Printer/Monitor Calibration   Printer/Monitor Calibration Icon_minitimeMon 26 Jan 2009 - 15:00

Hi all

I have a question about monitor & printer calibration, and I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has done this.

I will need to have very good calibration to ensure printed material matches my screen, as the product will be sold for my personal monetary gain Smile

Has anyone used any of the available products on the market - Colourvision Spyder or ColorMunki - for example.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi we have recently purchased for the Photo group the Eye One monitor calibration. It is easy to use providing you uninstall Adobe Gamma from the start up menu. You attach the Eye One to the screen follow the step by step instructions and the eye does the rest and you should be able to print what you see on screen. However it is expensive appox £150 but should worth it to get a match to your screen picture.

Hope that helps.

Jo & Alan

Thanks for your replies.

I have heard good things about the Eye One (Eye1??) product, but it seems to me that there are 2 products for Eye1 & Huey - 1 being for Monitor calibration (which needs to be done first) and then a second for Printer calibration - which is how you get the printed product to match the on-screen visual.

The cost of these 2 products may be prohibitive - so it's off to Ebay to get "last year's" model at a better price!

Calibration of Printer to monitor has always sent me mad...

With Windows before XP there was in Control Panel something called Adobe Gamma which had a wizard to guide you thro..I found this great BUT now I have XP I cannot find it...
For many years I have favoured HP printers and in the Tool Box there is a part to click on to do a calibration and there are also "visual" color adjustments. Once decided up on these are good.

Another VERY important item I have found is that the fotopaper used does make a huge difference. Once you have things set to your liking stick to your same brand of paper.

AWAYS use original inks and not the lesser inexpensive compatibles
Quaility matters and quality needs to be paid for.

One of my mentors always used Epsom printers and swore that with Epsom machines you should only use Epsom papers and Epson inks... and the proof was in his results..

So set up your equipment, stick to the originals use whatever machine but use their paper and their ink and you could well be on the way to success...

I hope !
